ESC Server Migration
Step 2 - Estimated Time: 10 minutes
Create an Empty Database
You are now going to create an empty database on the new server with the same name as the old one.
- Log into ESC on the new server – do not open the sample company.
- Go to File | New Company.
- Leave the Server Name as (Local)\ESC
- Leave the network library as Winsock TCP/IP
- Uncheck the Login using Windows authentication box.
- Leave the login name as ADMIN
- Enter the ADMIN password from your original database
- Now enter the database name – this must be the same exact name as the database you wish to restore. (The database name should be the same as the first part of the backup file. For example: If your backup file is Service.dat_bak, the database name was Service.)
- Click OK when done to start the New Company wizard.
- Click Next through the entire database installation wizard. Don't worry about the settings as you will be overwriting these settings with your old backup momentarily. Click Finish at the end and a blank new evaluation database will be accessible.
Restore the Backup
You now need to transfer or load your database backup onto the new server computer, so that you may restore the backup file into the new database you have just created.
- Create a new folder in the root of your C:\ drive called ESC.
- Copy your original backup file to this directory.
- Switch back over to ESC and click on File | Restore Your Data.
- Change the path to C:\ESC and click Next.
- Choose the most recent backup date set and then click on Restore. This may take a few minutes, but you will receive a message when the restore is complete.
It is unlikely, but if you get an Activation error when restoring your database, please look at step 12 of this article.
