ESC Server Migration
Step 5 - Estimated Time: 10 minutes
Disable Old Services
If you want to keep the old server on the network, it is important that you disable SQL Server and the ESC Connections Server on it. This will prevent conflicts and people from logging into the wrong database.
- On the old server, click the Windows Start button, type in services.msc, then press Enter.
- You will now be presented with a list of Windows services. Scroll down until you see ESC Connections Server, right-click on this service and select Properties.
- Change the Startup Type to Disabled, then click Stop.
- Click OK.
- Repeat steps 3 - 5 with the SQL Server (ESC) service.
Turn Off Firewall
In order for other computers to connect to the database you will have to turn off any firewalls on the new server. Once the connection has been established you can add exceptions to the firewall and enable it again, but for now just turn it off to ensure a smooth setup. The following procedure will show you how to turn off the Windows firewall. If you have a different firewall, please have your network administrator disable it now.
- Click the Windows Start button and select Control Panel.
- Select Windows Firewall. You may have to click System and Security before you can select Windows Firewall depending on your Windows settings.
- Click Turn Windows Firewall on or off on the left-hand side of the screen.
- Set all sections to Turn off Windows Firewall then click OK.
- Close out of any open windows.
