Many of the programs made by dESCO require Winsock TCP/IP connectivity between the computers in your office. Firewalls exist to stop that from happening. This article shows you what programs and ports you need to allow through your firewall to make ESC work. If you are using the Windows Firewall, see this article instead for more detailed instructions.
Allow the following programs or ports through the firewall on your ESC Server computer. On the workstation computers, you only need to add an exception for port 443 so that they can communicate with our licensing servers.
Note: If you are using a 64-bit machine replace Program Files with Program Files (x86) in the paths shown below. This should be done for every item except Microsoft SQL Server, which will always be in the regular Program Files folder.
Application | Default Path | Port |
Microsoft SQL Server | C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10_50.ESC\MSSQL\Binn\sqlservr.exe | Dynamic. Allow the program instead. |
Microsoft SQL Browser | C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Shared\sqlbrowser.exe | Dynamic. Allow the program instead. |
Accounting Server | C:\Program Files\dESCO\ESC Accounting Server\ESC Accounting Server.exe | 6050 |
Connections Server | C:\Program Files\dESCO\ESC Connections Server\ESC Connections Server.exe | 6090 |
MapPoint Server | C:\Program Files\dESCO\ESC MapPoint Server\MapPoint Server.exe | 6080 |
Caller ID Server | C:\Program Files\dESCO\ESC Caller ID Service\ESC Caller ID Server.exe | 6100 |
ESC Licensing* | 443 |
* Access to ESC Licensing is necessary any time ESC is upgraded.
If your firewall does not allow you to pick which programs can go through the firewall there may still be a way to find out which port Microsoft SQL Server is currently using. This port may change, so this procedure is not recommended but if this is your only option, follow these steps to find the port.
